Nikki Haley and warning supporters against complacency two days ahead of the New Hampshire primary. “Nikki Haley is using radical Democrat money to run the radical Democratic campaign operation she’s running,” Trump said, referencing his rival’s appeal to some centrist and anti-Trump political groups and donors. “Registered Democrats cannot vote in the Republican primary, and registered Republicans cannot vote in the Democratic primary,” New Hampshire Secretary of State David Scanlan told CNN earlier this week after Trump leveled a similar charge. Trump also looked ahead to the next major clash in the race: South Carolina. Henry McMaster invoked the Spice Girls – really – to tell voters “what we want, what we really really want” is Trump.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Is a New Hampshire primary without the frontrunner on the ballot and no delegates up for grabs still a New Hampshire primary? In the 2020 New Hampshire Democratic primary, write-in votes comprised only 2% of the total vote, or about 6,000 votes. As the number of write-ins for Biden and “Other write-ins” goes up, the number of unprocessed write-ins will go down. A total of 21 Democrats will appear by name on the New Hampshire primary ballot on Tuesday, in addition to the option to vote for a write-in candidate. She received 99% of the write-in votes cast, but the final result wasn’t known for more than two weeks after Election Day.

A voter carries his ballot from a voting booth while voting in the New Hampshire U.S. presidential primary election in Manchester, New Hampshire, February 11, 2020. New Hampshire's secretary of state on Wednesday scheduled the state's presidential primaries for Jan. 23, 2024, extending its century-old streak of going first despite national Democrats' efforts to overhaul the nominating calendar. Republicans will kick off the nominating process with the Iowa caucus on Jan. 15, 2024. New Hampshire's primary eight days later will be a crucial opportunity for GOP candidates to show they can remain competitive against former President Donald Trump, the early front-runner for their party's presidential nomination. But Scanlan said that using racial diversity as "a cudgel" in a bid to rearrange the presidential nominating calendar sets "an ugly precedent."

New Hampshire Democrats announced on Wednesday that they will hold their presidential primary on Jan. 23 – flouting President Joe Biden and the national party’s plans to anoint South Carolina with the first primary contest. Biden had already elected not to register in New Hampshire, and his name won’t appear on the Democratic presidential primary ballot next year. But the move isn’t without repercussions by the Democratic National Committee, including the potential loss of state delegates to the party convention. The Granite State has held the so-called “first in the nation” primary for more than a century, and a state law enacted in 1975 requires it to occur at least seven days before any other state’s primary or on the second Tuesday in March. Roughly 93% of New Hampshire’s 1.4 million residents are white, according to the U.S. Census, compared to 75% of the U.S. overall.

These former boosters explained to CNBC that they support Biden and are not in favor of the Minnesota congressman's primary bid. A spokesperson for Phillips' campaign did not return a request for comment. Opperman said Phillips told him his contributions would not be used for the primary run versus Biden. Jim and Pamela Deal combined to give $11,200 to Phillips campaign during the 2022 election cycle, according to FEC records.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A presidential primary filing period marked by lights, cameras and (in)action has come to a close at the New Hampshire secretary of state's office. While Biden will rely on a write-in campaign, the Democratic ballot hardly will be blank. There will be 21 names on the Democratic ballot and 24 on the GOP ballot. The simplest path to get on the New Hampshire presidential primary ballot is to submit a Declaration of Candidacy and pay a $1,000 filing fee. In 2024, New Hampshire will defy a new Democratic calendar that has South Carolina leading off presidential primary voting on Feb. 3 and Nevada going three days later.

Allies of President Joe Biden barely acknowledged Phillips' formal entrance into the race this week. In a prepared response to Phillips' announcement, Biden 2024 campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz did not even mention him by name. WASHINGTON — For team Biden, Rep. Dean Phillips , the Minnesota Democrat who launched a longshot primary challenge against the president, is barely a blip on the radar. "I'm not running against Joe Biden. I'm not running against President Biden," he said on MTP Now.

Although several key details about next year’s New Hampshire primary have yet to be determined, the event has begun to take shape. The South Carolina Democratic primary on Feb. 3 is the earliest contest on the Democratic National Committee's official calendar. Why won’t Biden’s name appear on the New Hampshire primary ballot? Will Biden still be a factor in the New Hampshire primary? Biden’s name will not appear as a printed option on the New Hampshire primary ballot.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire presidential primary filing period starts Wednesday, a ritual unruffled by either a changing of the guard or changes to the nominating calendar elsewhere. They need only meet the basic requirements to be president, fill out a one-page form and pay a $1,000 filing fee. But he wouldn’t be the first reelection-seeking incumbent missing from the primary ballot: President Lyndon Johnson won the 1968 Democratic primary as a write-in, though a shockingly strong-second place showing by Sen. Eugene McCarthy helped push him out of the race. Scanlan, who served as deputy secretary of state for 20 years, said he was excited to welcome candidates starting Wednesday. “That was Bill’s style, and he was really, really good at it.”

Washington CNN —Election officials in key battleground states are studying the legal viability of efforts to disqualify Donald Trump from running for president, based on the 14th Amendment’s ban on insurrectionists holding public office. A convicted January 6 rioter who was also a New Mexico county commissioner was removed from office based on 14th Amendment grounds, through a different but related legal mechanism. Their highly publicized attempts to remove GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Madison Cawthorn from the ballot were unsuccessful. It seems unlikely that any secretary of state would take such aggressive action like this on their own, and even if they did, it would be immediately challenged in court. He has been indicted on federal and state charges in connection with his wide-ranging attempts to subvert the 2020 election, including his role fueling the violence at the US Capitol.

President Joe Biden might be forced to forfeit primary contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. New DNC rules championed by Biden demoted Iowa and New Hampshire on the primary calendar. The DNC rules prohibit candidates from adding their names to ballots in states that don't adhere to the calendar. The new primary calendar ratified by the Democratic National Committee – at Biden's request – downgraded Iowa and New Hampshire from their longstanding positions as the first electoral hoorahs of the primary season. Both Iowa and New Hampshire, who have long enjoyed outsized influence as early-voting states, plan to buck the DNC rules and hold their contests early anyway.
WASHINGTON — Democrats advanced a plan Friday to reorder the early voting states in their presidential primary calendar, one that would put South Carolina first, jettison Iowa and demote New Hampshire. The overhaul calls for South Carolina to hold its Democratic primary on Feb. 3, followed by Nevada and New Hampshire on Feb. 6. Georgia would hold its primary on Feb. 13, with Michigan rounding out the early voting on Feb. 27. Democrats have spent months debating their primary calendar, aiming to increase the diversity of states that help select the party’s standard-bearer and to add more general election battlegrounds to the mix. "Our first-in-the-nation primary is part of our culture and has been in place for over 100 years.
